Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), H.E. Hissein Brahim Taha, paid a working visit to the Republic of Tatarstan at the personal invitation of Rais of Tatarstan, Rustam Minnikhanov. As part of his visit, H.E. Taha, accompanied by Chairman of the State Council of Tatarstan, Farid Mukhametshin, visited the Bolgar Islamic Academy, where the delegation was warmly received by Rector Farkhat Khusnutdinov.
During the visit, the OIC delegation was introduced to the history and current activities of the Bolgar Islamic Academy. The guests toured the Academy’s exhibition complex and explored its rich library collection of Islamic literature, including rare Qur’anic manuscripts and classical works on Islamic jurisprudence.
Of particular interest was the Academy’s Laboratory for the Restoration and Digitization of Ancient Books and Manuscripts, where H.E. Taha was shown meticulously restored publications showcasing the expertise of the Academy’s preservation specialists.
Rector Farkhat Khusnutdinov gave a detailed presentation on the founding of the Academy and its core mission — the preservation and promotion of the rich theological heritage of Russian Muslims.
Rustem Gilmutdinov, Vice-Rector for Educational Affairs, presented the Academy’s academic and scientific capabilities, highlighting its distinguished faculty and growing network of international partnerships.
Alsu Khasavnekh, Head of the Center for Islamic Heritage, shared information on ongoing efforts to research and promote the legacy of Tatar Islamic scholarship.
H.E. Hissein Brahim Taha commended the Academy’s impressive work and potential and expressed his full support for its educational and research activities.
The visit of the OIC Secretary-General coincides with his participation in the 16th International Economic Forum “Russia – Islamic World: KazanForum 2025.” The forum serves as a major platform for dialogue on key issues such as Islamic finance, the halal industry, technological innovation, investment, and international cooperation. A session of the Strategic Vision Group “Russia – Islamic World,” chaired by Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov, is also scheduled within the Forum’s framework.
The Secretary-General’s program also includes familiarization with the economic, investment, and cultural potential of the Republic of Tatarstan.
