Restoration and digitization laboratory

The laboratory carries out a range of works on preservation of book monuments and manuscript heritage:
  • restoration of paper documents;
  • binding using ancient technologies;
  • electronic copying of unique documents, books and other printed editions in the Academy's collections;
  • creation of an electronic fund of use, etc.
The laboratory uses advanced domestic and international experience related to digitalization, restoration, conservation, as well as other methods and techniques aimed at ensuring the long-term preservation of printed publications.
The complex for dedusting and disinfection of books, designed for gentle dry cleaning of library collections, prevents the accumulation of dust and other harmful elements (microorganisms, mold spores, etc.). Paper-based sheets are disinfected in a special ultraviolet chamber.
Digitization is done with a planetary book scanner: each sheet is digitized in its original form for inclusion in the library’s electronic collection.
The laboratory is designed to contribute to the improvement of the quality of the educational and scientific process at the Academy, to unite intellectual and material and technical resources in the performance of scientific research in the study of Islamic heritage, as well as to promote the preservation and introduction of new sources and materials on the history and culture of Islam.
