Bolgar Islamic Academy held a Meeting of the Board of Trustees
On February 8, 2020, Bolgar Islamic Academy hosted a Meeting of the Academy's Board of Trustees, which was attended by first Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration of the Russian Federation, Chairman of the Board of Trustees Sergey Kiriyenko, President of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov and other officials.
The meeting was also attended by heads of Russian regions, representatives of ministries and departments of Russian Federation and Tatarstan, clergy, entrepreneurs, and patrons.
"The President of our country has made a number of decisions to support the development of Bolgar Academy, –Sergey Kiriyenko said in his speech. –We have a Fund for supporting Islamic culture, science and education for several years. President of the Russian Federation decided to increase funding for this Fund, including from the budget of the Russian Federation. As part of our further work, we will see how this Fund can help Bolgar Islamic Academy work. First of all, we are talking about supporting both applicants and students, and, of course, it is very important to support the teaching staff, as well as graduates, especially in the first years." Chairman of the Board of Trustees also noted that Bolgar Islamic Academy faces a difficult competition with foreign educational institutions and this competition must be ensured by the quality of teaching and programs.
Speaking at the meeting of the Board of Trustees of Bolgar Islamic Academy, President of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov said: "It is Extremely important that the Academy should not only be an educational center, but also act as a leading intellectual platform of Russian Islam, become a center for developing conceptual solutions to the main issues of development of the country's Muslim Ummah, defend Russia's position in the international arena and promote its image."
Rustam Minnikhanov thanked first Deputy Head of the presidential Administration of the Russian Federation Sergey Kiriyenko for participating in the work of the Academy's Board of Trustees and stressed: "Today, further development of Bolgar Islamic Academy is necessary. There is still much to be done to fulfill the President's instructions regarding the reconstruction of local Islamic theological school, which will ensure the sovereignty of the Russian spiritual space."
The Central topic of discussion was the speech of Rector of Bolgar Islamic Academy, Daniyar Abdrakhmanov.
"Bolgar Islamic Academy as the highest link in the system of national Islamic education is becoming a leading scientific and educational center and is designed to consolidate the potential of the Russian Muslim clergy to revive the national Muslim school and restore the former greatness of the Islamic theologians of ancient Bulgaria," Rector said in his speech. Currently, the Academy has 96 master’s students, 26 doctoral students, and 15 teachers. In 2019, the first six doctors of Muslim theology in the country's history were graduated. This year, in addition to new doctors, the first graduation of masters of Islamic law is also expected. The first graduates of the Academy have already been integrated into spiritual and religious educational structures."
Daniyar Abdrakhmanov in his speech presented the development strategy of Bolgar Islamic Academy, which involves, in particular, creating departments of religious and humanitarian disciplines; department of doctoral studies; center for continuing education; madrasah boarding school; all-Russian library of Islam; scientific-methodical center for developing Islamic education; information and publishing center.
At the end of the meeting of BIA Board of Trustees, President Rustam Minnikhanov presented State awards from the Republic of Tatarstan to the President of PJSC Lukoil Vagit Alekperov and the Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Dean of Oriental faculty of St. Petersburg State University, General Director of State Hermitage Museum Mikhail Piotrovsky.
